Emergency Short Term Loan Application

Short term loans are available through the Chauncey Short Term Loan Program for students who are in emergency financial situations. Short term loans are also available for books in the case that a financial aid disbursement is delayed. Short term loans must be repaid within 30 days or at the end of the current semester, whichever comes first. The maximum amount of a short term loan is $500 per semester with a $15 service charge.

ASU Online students are not eligible for emergency short term loans, unless they are local and can complete the application and pick up their check in-person.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Have current semester tuition and fees paid at ASU.
  2. Be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours for undergraduates and 5 hours for graduates) or on a Consortium Agreement.
  3. Be admitted to a degree seeking or certificate program.
  4. Have a verifiable source of repayment, such as:
  • expected financial aid for the current semester,
  • employment (must attach a letter from employer on company letterhead), or
  • co-signer (this form must be notarized and a letter from employer on company letterhead must be attached)


  1. Print and complete the application below.
  2. Submit the application in-person to Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.

Please Note:  For approved emergency Short Term Loan applications submitted in person before 2:30PM, you will receive an email to your ASU email address within 24-48 business hours from Student Business Services (SBS) – Student Accounts with instructions on where to pick up your emergency loan check.  All students will need to provide a valid photo ID when they arrive to pick up their check.  If you have not received an SBS email, please contact SBS Student Account before arriving to  pick up any checks.
