Use the information below to guide you through the application process and address any questions you might have.
Applying for Graduation
- Register for your final semester. Students apply for graduation for the semester in which they are completing their final courses.
- Check your degree requirements. All requirements must be completed prior to the degree conferral date.
- Undergraduate students: review your Degree Audit Report (DARS) regularly and meet with your academic advisor if you have questions or concerns.
- Graduate students: verify your approved Plan of Study is correct and/or complete any needed course changes. See Graduate Students Graduation Deadlines and Procedures for additional information.
- Apply to graduate from MyASU. Select the “graduation” tab from My Programs and eAdvisor® and follow the online instructions. A credit card is required to complete your application.
Application for Graduation filing fees:
NOTE: If application deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be extended to the next business day.
If you are not able to apply online:
- Apply in person.
- Apply by mail.
- Print and complete the Application for Graduation.
- Mail the completed application and applicable payment to the address listed on the application.
Students that apply for graduation will not be eligible to register for subsequent semesters without being admitted to a new degree program. Students that wish to change their graduation semester after they have applied must contact the graduation office and must re-apply for graduation for their new intended semester of graduation prior to the conferral date of their original graduation semester.
Your Application Status—Check your application status from your MyASU page. Your status will be one of the following
Applied: Your application for graduation has been received and is being processed. If your application cannot be processed your status will change to either denied or withdrawn and you will be notified by email. Review your Degree Audit Report or your Plan of Study regularly to ensure that all requirements will be met. Unless you are denied or withdrawn, your status will appear as applied until your degree is posted, which occurs approximately 4-6 weeks after the degree conferral date.
Denied: Your application for graduation has been denied because you will not meet one or more degree requirements by the degree conferral date. Review your Degree Audit Report or Plan of Study and contact either your academic advisor or department chair to review your degree requirements and discuss your options.
Withdrawn: Your application for graduation has been withdrawn because you have not completed all coursework (including incompletes) and degree requirements listed on your Degree Audit or Plan of Study by the degree conferral date. Review your Degree Audit Report or Plan of Study and contact either your academic advisor or department chair to review your degree requirements and discuss your options.
Minors, Certificates and Concurrent Degrees: Undergraduates who wish to remove a minor, concurrent degree, or certificate from their degree audit should contact their academic advisor. Failure to do so may result in the student being withdrawn from graduation and delay the posting of their degree.
Re-filing for graduation: If your application is denied or withdrawn, you may need to re-file your application for the semester your requirements will be completed. No fee is required to re-file for graduation.
ASU Graduation Ceremonies: ASU hosts a number of graduation ceremonies each fall and spring semester. See University Ceremonies web site for details.
Commencement Book: University Commencement books are published after fall and spring semesters. Names for summer graduates will appear in the fall commencement book.
Academic Recognition: An undergraduate student must have completed at least 56 credit hours of resident credit at ASU to qualify for graduation with academic recognition for a baccalaureate degree.
The cumulative GPA determines the designation, as shown in the table below:

The cumulative GPA for these designations is based on ASU resident course work only. All designations of graduation with academic recognition are indicated on the diploma and the ASU transcript. Graduation with academic recognition applies only to undergraduate degrees.
A student who has a baccalaureate degree from ASU and is pursuing a second baccalaureate degree at ASU (with a minimum of 30 hours of resident credit) is granted academic recognition on the second degree based on credit hours earned subsequent to the posting of the first degree. If fewer than 56 credit hours are completed at ASU subsequent to completion of the first ASU degree, the level of academic recognition can be no higher than obtained on the first degree. If 56 or more credit hours are completed at ASU after completion of the first ASU degree, the level of academic recognition is based on the GPA earned for the second ASU degree. Your Diploma: Diplomas are mailed approximately 6-8 weeks after the degree conferral date. Graduates will receive an email notification via their ASU email account when their diploma has been mailed. Diplomas are mailed to the home address on file with University Registrar Services. Students can update their home address from MyASU. Please note that an incorrect address will delay the delivery of your diploma. Students will be notified by email if their diploma was returned to the university. All undeliverable diplomas returned to ASU will be retained by University Registrar Services for one year. Please note:
- F1/J1 visa graduates will receive their diplomas at their local addresses.
- Graduates with a delinquent financial obligation of $25 or more will not receive their diplomas. For information on a delinquent account, please contact (480) 965-5220.
Replacement Diploma: Replacement diplomas can be requested by students using Replacement Diploma Request form. Each diploma costs $35 and will arrive in 4-6 weeks. An email notification will be sent via the email address listed on the Replacement Diploma Request when the replacement diploma has been mailed.
Graduation Letter Request Form: Use the Graduation Letter Request Form to request a Graduation Pending Letter, Letter of Completion, Less than 12 hours Letter (for Student Athletes) or a Letter of Invitation from the Graduation Office. Requests can be submitted to any Registrar location. Please allow 2 full business days (48 hours) for processing.
