International Orientation

 

Arizona State University hosts a number of welcome events for incoming international students. These fun, informative and interactive programs offer an overview of a wide variety of topics that will help you meet new friends and learn about ASU.

If you are living at the Downtown Phoenix, Polytechnic or West campus, ASU will provide free transportation to and from the Tempe campus to attend the welcome events. Shuttle services end at 5 p.m. We will have more information on this soon.

Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018

Chinese Undergraduate Student Welcome Breakfast
7:30 – 11:30 a.m.
ASU Memorial Union, Ventana ballrooms, B and C

If you are a new undergraduate student from China, come join us for this welcome breakfast. It’s an opportunity to connect with current Chinese students and learn about the essential skills needed to succeed at ASU. Parents are welcome. All presentations will be provided in Mandarin.

International Exchange Student Orientation
8 – 11 a.m.
ASU Memorial Union, Alumni room

This is an orientation for exchange students from study abroad partner institutions studying at ASU for one semester or academic year. The orientation will cover J-1 immigration, academics, policies, and getting situated at ASU and in Tempe.

Sponsored Student Welcome Breakfast
8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
ASU Memorial Union, Ventana ballroom A

If you are a new sponsored student from MENA region, come join us for this welcome breakfast. It’s an opportunity to meet the sponsored services team from the International Students & Scholars Center, connect with other sponsored students and learn essential information that will help you succeed at ASU.

New Student Orientation (for first-time freshmen)
11:45 a.m. – 4 p.m.
ASU Memorial Union, Arizona ballroom

New Student Orientation is designed to provide information, resources, tools and tips to help you make a successful transition to ASU life. Attending orientation will help you be better prepared for your first semester. At orientation, you will be able to connect with your academic college, become familiar with your campus, and learn about all of the many resources, opportunities and support networks available at ASU.

Welcome and Taste of America
4 – 6 p.m.
ASU Student Pavilion, Senita ballroom

While networking with international alumni, come learn about and taste different food and drink found in the U.S.

The ideal opportunity to purchase class supplies, items for your room and anything you may still need before classes begin.

Graduate Campus Tours
9  – 11a.m.
Meeting location: Outside Student Services Building

Come join us for a tour of ASU’s Tempe campus. You’ll learn ASU history while locating important landmarks for international students.

Undergraduate International Orientation (for all new undergraduate students)
9 a.m. – noon
ASU Memorial Union, 2nd floor

The information at orientation will help you transition to the U.S. and ASU. Day 1 will cover academic expectations and culture at ASU, and will introduce important ASU resources.

Student Resource Fair and Lunch
noon – 1:30 p.m.
Student Services Building and Lawn

Learn about student clubs and services available for international students while mingling with new friends and enjoying lunch.

International Graduate Student Conference, Part 1
1:30 – 5 p.m.
ASU Student Pavilion

Designed for graduate students, this two-part orientation and conference will cover graduate-level academic expectations and culture at ASU, and will introduce important ASU resources, while giving you the opportunity to connect with other international students.

Come join us for a tour of ASU’s Tempe campus. You’ll learn about ASU history while identifying important landmarks for international students.

International Student Fun Fair
5 – 7 p.m.
Sun Devil Fitness Complex

The International Student Fun Fair is a night filled with interactive and engaging activities. Come join your fellow students in a night filled with action, fun, socializing and an awareness of what Sun Devil Fitness can do to help you be successful at ASU.

Friday, Jan. 5, 2018

Graduate TA Orientation
8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
ASU Memorial Union, Ventana ballroom

This program is required for all new teaching assistants.  ASU will provide you with an orientation to the TA position as an important component of your professional identity development and graduate student journey.

Come join us for a tour of ASU’s Tempe campus. You’ll learn about ASU history while locating important landmarks for international students.

Undergraduate International Orientation
9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
ASU Memorial Union, 2nd floor

The information at orientation will help you transition to the U.S. and ASU. Day 2 will provide the opportunity to meet with staff and advisors from your specific colleges or schools to learn about available resources and programs. Additionally, you will get the chance to meet and interact with students from similar majors and make connections.

International Graduate Student Conference, Part 2
noon – 5 p.m.
ASU Student Pavilion

Designed for graduate students, Day 2 of this two-part conference will cover graduate-level professional development services and employment regulations, and will include an opportunity to hear from ASU international alumni.

CIS Carnival Dance Party
5 – 7 p.m.

The Coalition of International Students invites you to a night of fun games, free food and a dance party.
