Medical/Compassionate Withdrawal Request Procedures

A medical/compassionate withdrawal request may be made in extraordinary cases in which serious illness or injury (medical) or another significant personal situation (compassionate) prevents a student from continuing his or her classes, and incompletes or other arrangements with the instructors are not possible.

Since a complete withdrawal from the university can be a difficult decision and could result in serious academic and financial consequences, ASU has many resources in place to help. During the fall and spring semesters, undergraduate students are required to work with a Student Retention Coordinator to facilitate the withdrawal process or explore other potential options which may include:
