In order to ensure students receiving financial aid are successfully completing their degree program in a timely fashion, the federal government requires each institution to monitor each student's academic progress. To remain eligible for federal and state aid programs, you must meet all three of ASU's SAP standards regardless of whether you have received financial aid in the past. This policy is not applicable to scholarships or employee tuition benefits. Your SAP status does not determine your eligibility to register for classes.

SAP Standards
1. GPA Standard
Students must maintain a minimum ASU GPA according to the ASU Academic Standards . Students on academic disqualification are not eligible for financial aid.
2. Pass Rate Standard
Students must pass at least 67% of their total attempted ASU credit hours in their current degree level at ASU. Passed credits do not include courses with grades of E, I or W and Law grades of 59 (Failing F89-SS01) and 64 (Failing F01). A passed course, if retaken, will be considered passed only once, yet attempted twice. Audited courses, ungraded courses, remedial no-credit courses and courses with a grade of Z are excluded from this measurement. Measurement of your pass rate will occur at the completion of every fall, spring and summer semester. Students on Financial Aid Suspension due to a pass rate violation are not eligible for federal and state financial aid (see SAP Status Definitions below).
3. Maximum Credit Hour Standard
Students must not exceed the maximum attempted credit hour limit for their degree program as indicated in the table below. All passed credits reported on college transcripts sent to ASU are included in this measurement. Audited courses are excluded from this measurement. Students who have attempted in excess of the credit hours indicated in the table below, are ineligible for financial aid. Measurement of your attempted credit hours will occur at the completion of every fall, spring and summer semester. Students on Financial Aid Termination due to a maximum credit hour violation are not eligible for federal and state financial aid see SAP Status Definitions below).

SAP Status Definitions
Status Definition
Financial Aid Probation
This SAP status is a warning that is placed on your financial aid file when your ASU pass rate drops below 67%. You will still remain eligible for financial aid as long as you meet all other financial aid eligibility criteria . You will have three consecutive semesters, excluding the winter semester, to raise your ASU pass rate to the 67% standard. If, after three consecutive semesters, you are unable to raise your ASU pass rate to 67%, your SAP status will elevate to "Financial Aid Suspension". Your SAP status does not determine your eligibility to register for classes.
Financial Aid Suspension
This SAP status will be placed on your financial aid file if your ASU pass rate remains below 67% for three consecutive semesters, excluding the winter semester. If you are on financial aid suspension then you are not eligible for financial aid for the current and subsequent semesters, and all aid that has been awarded will be placed on hold. If the measurement occurs after a semester has begun, aid for that semester will be canceled. This policy is not applicable to scholarships or employee tuition benefits. Your SAP status does not determine your eligibility to register for classes.
Financial Aid Termination
This SAP status will be placed on your financial aid file if you exceed your maximum credit hour limit for your degree program. If you are on financial aid termination then you are not eligible for financial aid for the current and subsequent semesters, and all aid that has been awarded will be placed on hold. If the measurement occurs after a semester has begun, aid for that semester will be canceled. This policy is not applicable to scholarships or employee tuition benefits.
Your SAP status does not determine your eligibility to register for classes.
How to Regain Eligibility
Status What To Do
Financial Aid Suspension
You can do one of the following:
Enroll at ASU without financial aid and pass sufficient credits to meet the required cumulative institutional pass rate standard.
Submit a Satisfactory Academic Progress Review form (with required documentation of circumstances) by the deadline noted on the form. Submission of this form is not a guarantee of an approval and/or reinstatement of financial aid eligibility. If your SAP Review form is approved, your eligibility will be reinstated until the next SAP Pass Rate measurement.
Financial Aid Termination
Submit a Satisfactory Academic Progress Review form (with required documentation of circumstances) by the deadline noted on the form. Submission of this form is not a guarantee of an approval and/or reinstatement of financial aid eligibility. If the SAP Review form is approved, your financial aid eligibility will be extended through the number of semesters it takes you to earn up to the number of additional credit hours approved. Review approval is only granted for extenuating circumstance beyond the control of the student.
Appealing a SAP Review Form Decision
A committee will review appeals on a case-by-case basis. Review approval is only granted for extenuating circumstances beyond the control of the student. Inability to master course material is not an extenuating circumstance. All decisions made by this committee are final.
