I am a military person who is not from Arizona. I am getting out and want to move to Arizona. Can I be considered a resident?

It is possible to change your state of legal residence while in the military. The military form DD2058 is the Change of Legal Residence. If you designate Arizona as your legal residence, the military would begin deducting Arizona state taxes and you would be required to file an Arizona state tax return. Once you have declared Arizona as your legal residence for twelve months you may qualify as a resident for tuition purposes. The twelve month period must be met by the petition deadline to be eligible for residency status for that semester. If you have not been a “legal resident” for the required twelve month period, you may attend Arizona State University as a nonresident until the twelve month period has been met.
