Applying for Graduation
ASU Graduation Ceremonies
Your Diploma
A Declaration of Graduation (undergraduate students) or an approved Program of Study (undergraduate students prior to 1994-96 or graduate students) must be on file with the Graduation Section before an application for graduation can be accepted.
The Declaration of Graduation declares the catalog year requirements for the college, degree and major from which you intend to graduate.
If your catalog year is 1996-98 or later, you must file a Declaration of Graduation no later than the semester in which you earn your 87th hour. If you do not complete your form in this semester, you will be prevented from further registration. If you change your major, minor, concentration within the major, or catalog year after filing a Declaration of Graduation, the first form will no longer be valid and you must submit a new one. Make an appointment with your academic advisor to review a degree audit report from DARS. At this time, you will complete the Declaration of Graduation form.
If your catalog year is 1994-96 or earlier, you must file an Undergraduate Program of Study no later than the semester in which you earn your 87th hour. Contact an academic advisor in the college or department of your major for additional information.
Declaration of Graduation Form and instructions
If you are seeking a master's or doctoral degree, you should consult your faculty advisor at the earliest possible date following your regular admission to a graduate program. In consultation with that advisor, you must file an official Program of Study to outline the planned course of study for the degree you are seeking. See your department for instructions on filing.
A Program of Study may include a maximum of nine hours of course work completed prior to admission to a graduate degree program at Arizona State University. These are identified as "nondegree" hours. The number of hours transferred from other institutions may not exceed 20 percent of the total minimum semester hours required for a master's degree unless stated otherwise for a specific degree program. Transfer credit taken prior to admission is included in the total number of nondegree hours.
Changes in approved Program of Study may be made using a Petition for Course Change. For specific degree requirements for Master's or Doctoral programs, see the Graduate College web site.
