Fellowship Description

The St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center/Arizona State University Primary Care Fellowship is an ACGME accredited, one-year, primary care sports medicine fellowship. This one year fellowship offers a well rounded experience with exposure to high school and division I athletics. Additionally, opportunities are available for professional athletic experience. The fellow covers a variety of sporting teams and events including a local high school, ASU athletics and mass participation events. They also attend and participate in a monthly lecture series and participate in both primary care and orthopedic clinics with a variety of primary care and orthopedic faculty.

Sports medicine experience (half days per week)

  • Campus Health Service sports medicine clinic (2)
  • Intercollegiate athletics office and training room (5)
  • Orthopedics (2)
    - includes longitudinal exposure to knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, foot/ankle
  • Additional time may be spent in areas of interest
  • spine, general
  • Continuity (1-2) in FP, IM, IM/Peds
  • High school training room and games
  • Sports medicine clinic St Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center

  • Arizona State University Division I intercollegiate athletics
  • Local high school (games and training room)
  • ASU hosted tournaments in all sports
  • P.F. Chang's Rock & Roll Marathon-medical coordination
  • Opportunity to shadow team physicians for Arizona Diamondbacks, Phoenix Suns.
