Oscar A. and Joyce B. Shiell Scholarship

in
Scholarship Description ASU Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of the Oscar A. and Joyce B. Shiell Scholarship for the 2010‐11 academic year. The scholarship fund is named in honor of Oscar A. and Joyce B. Shiell. The Shiells’ were very active community leaders in Arizona for numerous years prior to relocating to Hawaii. In 1986, based on their observations of a single parent’s challenges providing higher education for her two children, the Shiells’ made a decision to establish a scholarship program. The Shiells’ goal is to offer partial financial assistance to talented students from single‐parent households and/or self‐supporting students to pursue their educational goals at Arizona State University. Mrs. Shiell passed away in June 2000 and Mr. Shiell passed away in March 2008. Mr. Shiell always encouraged his scholarship recipients and applicants to remember one important philosophy ‐‐ “To be successful, you must be healthy, happy, and lucky.”
