Summer Aid for Freshmen

The following information is for the benefit of students who are incoming frehmen beginning their studies at ASU during the summer 2009 semester.

Steps To Complete Notes
Enroll in summer 2009 classes. You will enroll in summer classes with the help of your academic advisor. You must be enrolled in the summer semester to be considered for summer financial aid.
2 Complete a 2008-2009 FAFSA.

www.fafsa.ed.gov
Make sure to complete the 2008-2009 FAFSA even if you have already completed a 2009-2010 FAFSA. ASU can only award you financial aid for summer 2009 with the information from the 2008-2009 FAFSA.
3 Monitor your financial aid status & submit requested documents on your "To Do" list on My ASU.

http://my.asu.edu
If ASU is requesting verification items to complete your financial aid file, you will find them on My ASU under your "To Do" list. Pay close attention to the aid year the item is being requested for by clicking on each item. Forms submitted for the wrong aid year will delay the processing and awarding of your financial aid. All items listed for aid year 2008-2009 need to be completed in order for your summer financial aid to be processed.
4 Receive your financial aid notification.

After all requested items have been submitted and processed, you will be considered for financial aid based on the number of credits you are enrolled for in the summer semester. If you already applied for and been awarded financial aid for the fall 2009 and spring 2010, an e-mail will be sent to your ASU e-mail address informing you that you have been awarded summer aid. Otherwise, you will receive a letter in the mail detailing your summer aid awards.

Once awarded summer aid, you can always view your current awards on My ASU under "Financial Aid". Summer awards will be listed in the 2009 aid year.
5 Accept, reduce or decline your awards under "Financial Aid" on My ASU.

http://my.asu.edu
If you intend to borrow loans for the summer, you must accept them on My ASU under "Financial Aid". Make sure to select the 2009 aid year. Grants and scholarships are automatically accepted. In order to receive loans, you must be enrolled in at least six credit hours.
6 Complete any Master Promissory Note(s) and Loan Entrance Counseling on your "To Do" list on My ASU.

http://my.asu.edu
If you accepted any loans, you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Loan Entrance Counseling for each loan. Loans cannot disburse until these have been completed.
7 Sign up for direct deposit.

We recommend that you enroll in direct deposit so that, after your aid has disbursed and has been applied to your ASU charges, any remaining funds will be sent to your bank account for quicker access to them. If you do not enroll in direct deposit, any remaining funds will be sent as a check to your mailing address on file at ASU.
8 Search for jobs.

If you plan on working during the summer, you can find on-campus jobs using our online job search.
9 If desired, apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan.

http://students.asu.edu/federal-plus-loan
If your parents decided to apply for a Federal Parent PLUS Loan, you and your parents must follow the instructions listed on the Web site on the left.
10 Receive your funds.

http://students.asu.edu/apply-for-aid/receive-funds
If you have been awarded and all of your "To Do" list items are completed, your funds will disburse near the beginning of the summer session you are enrolled in. Your financial aid will automatically pay your current ASU charges. If there are any remaining funds, they will be sent to you either by direct deposit or check.
