Priority of Use
1. Recognized campus organizations and departments of the university who are registered with the university.
2. Weddings, baptisms, and memorial services for students, alumni, faculty and staff and/or their families.
3. Other groups may, at the discretion of the University, use the chapel.
Chapel Information and Guidelines For Use
1. The chapel may be scheduled by calling the Student Life office at (480) 965-6547 Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
2. The chapel doors are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The chapel is closed on the weekends.
3. There are approximately 60 chairs in the chapel.
4. There is no fee to rent the chapel for registered student organizations utilizing the chapel for their organization-sponsored events.
5. There is a fee to use the chapel for weddings, baptisms, and other personal events--$35 for ASU students, faculty, staff and alumni and a $75 fee for non-affiliated persons. A refundable deposit of $75 is also required for the use of the chapel and to check out a chapel key. All fees must be paid two weeks before your scheduled event and your $75 deposit will be returned to you when you return the key, provided the chapel was left in good order. We ask that you make out two checks, one for $35 or $75 (chapel rental) and another for $75 (deposit), payable to ASU Danforth Chapel.
6. A bridal dressing room is available and the entrance is located to the left of the main chapel doors. Additional rooms are available if needed in the chapel office which is adjacent to the bridal dressing room or in the upstairs storage room.
7. Candles and other flammable devices are not allowed in the chapel. The use of candles or other hazardous materials will result in the forfeiture of your deposit and may prevent you from renting the chapel in the future.
8. Food and drink are not allowed in the chapel and adjoining offices.
9. Throwing rice, birdseed, or confetti is not permitted.
10. If you need to drive to the chapel doors, a Mall permit must be obtained from Parking and Transit Services in the Towers Building, Room #107 between 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Towers Building is located on the south side of 5th Street between Forest and College and parking representatives can be reached at 480.965.6146.
11. Parking for guests is available at the meters on Gammage Parkway and Forest Avenue; however, there is a charge Monday - Saturday from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. There is no charge for parking on Sunday. Free parking is available on Saturday and Sunday in Parking Structure #1 and in the Gammage parking lot unless there is a scheduled event (football game, program at Gammage, etc.).
12. There is a water cooler in the chapel office; however, there are no restroom facilities in the chapel. You may use the restrooms in Hayden Library (a few feet north of the chapel) or in the Memorial Union (a few feet southeast of the chapel).
13. You are required to furnish your own minister or Justice of the Peace. If you do not have a minister, you can ask Student Life for the name of campus ministers who may be available to provide services.
14. Decorations may be temporarily left in the chapel and offices (during your scheduled time) but we ask that all boxes, papers, and decorations be removed at the close of the ceremony. Many times there is another ceremony or service before the chapel is cleaned and, as a courtesy to others, we would appreciate your cooperation. Please be advised that the Office of Student Life and Arizona State University are not responsible for any personal belongings or rental items left in the chapel.
15. It is very important that when you are finished using the chapel, you arrange the chairs, table, podium, etc. as you found them. This is a courtesy to those who will be using the chapel after you. The organ must not be moved; movement causes it to malfunction.
16. To comply with fire code regulations, the aisle in the chapel must be at least 42 inches wide, the front doors cannot be blocked, and the office doors must remain unlocked, with nothing blocking them so that guests may use them as a second exit if the need should arise.
17. All doors must be locked before you leave (including the office, bridal room and upstairs storage room). Do not leave the key behind but make sure you have made arrangements to return the key to the Student Life office on the next business day following your event.
