Postdoctoral Residency Training Program

PLEASE NOTE: THE APPLICATION DEADLINE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO: March 15, 2010

Dear Residency Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in our postdoctoral residency training program. The residency at Counseling and Consultation (C&C) is a 2000 hour, 12-month training program. The postdoctoral program is an Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) member.

Counseling and Consultation (C&C) is the primary mental health care provider for the ASU - Tempe campus, one of the largest universities in the country. We provide triage and crisis response services, initial assessment, focused individual and group therapy services, and limited psychiatric services to students. We also provide consultation and outreach our diverse university community. In addition, we have a large training program, which in addition to postdoctoral residents includes predoctoral psychology interns, practicum counselors and psychiatric residents. Our clinical staff includes psychologists, social workers, counselors, and psychiatrists representing a range of theoretical orientations. Therefore, the training environment is enhanced by the richness of a multidisciplinary approach.

The postdoctoral residency training program is designed to provide advanced training for professional and leadership roles in university counseling center settings. Our training staff provides a supportive environment, while at the same time challenging residents to develop their professional identity as psychologists. While consolidating general clinical skills, residents receive training and engage in professional activities in a focus area related to their career interests. Available focus areas include:

  • counseling center administration and consultation
  • training
  • wellness psychology
