The ASU Health Center at the Downtown Phoenix Campus

The ASU Health Center at the Downtown Phoenix Campus offers a wide range of clinical services for ASU students, ASU faculty and staff, and to the community at large. We have a multidisciplinary staff of psychologists, nurse practitioners, and social workers who provide confidential, time-limited psychological and psychiatric services to meet the needs of clients.

Location

The ASU Health Center at the Downtown Phoenix Campus is located in the College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation Building (on Taylor St. between 2nd and 3rd Streets). 500 North 3rd Street, Suite 155, Phoenix, AZ 85004.

Hours of Operation

Counseling services are available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Staff

Sonja Sollenberger, Ph.D., Senior Outreach Counselor
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Arizona State University
Services provided: individual mental health counseling, couples, family, and group counseling, outreach, and consultation.

Professional Interests and Specialties: Developmental issues, family of origin and attachment issues, separation-individuation, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and academic persistence.

Ester Ruiz, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist
Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, Arizona State University
Services provided: Dr. Ruiz is fluent in English and Spanish and provides individual, couples, and family mental health counseling.

Professional Interests and Specialties: Depression, anxiety, trauma, and domestic violence.

Joan Allen, MSW, LCSW, from the ASU Employee Assistance Office
Provides counseling for ASU faculty and staff at the Downtown Campus on Mondays and Fridays. Contact Joan via email at Joan.Allen@asu.edu to schedule an appointment.

Fees

The ASU Health Center at the Downtown Phoenix Campus accepts insurance payments for services. When making an appointment, please provide your health insurance information in order for the staff to verify your psychotherapy/mental health coverage. To facilitate reimbursement, contact your insurance plan to determine what steps are needed to ensure psychotherapy/mental health coverage.

Outreach and Consultation Services

Dr. Sollenberger is available to provide outreach presentations for the Downtown Phoenix Campus and to the community-at-large on topics such as stress management, interpersonal group dynamics and relationships, grief and loss, sexual assault, trauma, eating concerns, academic concerns, career exploration, communication, parent and child enhancement, anger management, and crisis intervention. To learn more about these services or to request a presentation (which may be customized to your needs), call the ASU Health Center at the Downtown Phoenix campus at 602.496.0721. Please note that a minimum of two weeks notice is required for all outreach and programming requests.

Mental health staff also provide consultation when faculty or staff are concerned about a student in distress. These consultations are offered both by telephone or office consultation.
